'Rollout of OLabs' - CBSE to help teachers to use digital labs for better teaching
MUMBAI:
To encourage use of online lab resources in the Central Board of Secondary
Education (CBSE)-affiliated schools, the board has asked its teachers to
undergo training organized by the Online Labs (OLabs) for School Environment,
an open source.
OLabs
is a virtual online e-Learning initiative developed jointly by C-DAC, Mumbai
and Amrita University, Kollam with funding support from the department of
electronics and information technology, government of India.
In
a circular issued on the CBSE website, the board said, "It provides
students experience of virtual experiments that will stimulate their interest
and learning by giving them the virtual experience of doing real lab work, by
graphically resembling with laboratory equipment and simulating a virtual
medium."
The
content has been developed for classes IX and X in physics, biology, chemistry,
mathematics and English and is aligned with the CBSE syllabus for classes IX
and X. However, it is open for all students and schools as a free resource for
all schools (teachers and students) in India and is accessible free of cost on
the website. A DVD version is also available on demand.
Called
'Rollout of OLabs', it will train CBSE teachers to use and manage digital
resources. "All schools affiliated to the Board are advised to encourage
their teachers to attend the training programme on OLabs..." said the
circular.
