University Ranking 2016: JNU, Hyderabad University among India's best
educational institutions: Govt survey
The survey report will be released by
Human Resource Development minister Smriti Irani on Monday.
The
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and the University of Hyderabad (UoH), two
universities that have been in news since early this year over sedition cases
and death of Dalit scholar Rohit Vemula respectively, are among India's best
educational institutions.
A
government-backed survey, said to be the first of its kind, used several
yardsticks in the ranking process including "teaching/learning resources,
research, graduation outcomes (employability), outreach/ social and gender
inclusivity and perception", a report in Hindustan Times states.
The
report further states, "The data for the first four parameters, which
account for 90% of the weightage, was submitted by the institutions and
verified by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), a body constituted
by the HRD ministry last year to conduct annual quality surveys."
The
Delhi University also has been ranked among the top ten educational
institutions in the country.
The
survey report will be released by Human Resource Development minister Smriti
Irani on Monday.
Sources
in HRD Ministry told PTI that nearly 3,500 institutions will be ranked in six
categories. It is learnt there will be separate categories for technical
institutions, management institutions and universities.
When
it came to research, both the JNU and UoH have performed quite well, the
sources said.
