Now, students can't change colleges allotted online

Now, students can't change colleges allotted online

Unique ID To Be Given At Time Of FYJC Registration

With only a few sticking to seats allotted to them in the online admission process for first year junior college (FYJC), the state government this year will not allow students to change their college offline by using the unique identification number, which will be given at the time of registration. Education department ofials claimed that only 30 ficials claimed that only 3035% students continue in the college allotted to them in the online process. “We allotted a seat to almost all students who had applied through the online process. But, unhappy with what was allotted, the students withdraw admissions after the three online rounds and then apply offline. The Bombay high court had told us to rectify this,“ said B B Chavan, deputy director of education, Mumbai region.

Starting this year, all students will get a UID, which will help the department track their movements during admissions.

“There will be no offline process for students applying under the general category.Once they get two chances in the online process, they cannot change the college. Using the UID, colleges will be able to tell if the student already has a seat. If that is the case, they cannot admit the student in their college,“ said Chavan. The department had tried to restrict the offline process last year by stamping the school leaving certificate but withdrew it after protests.

But students are unhappy with the move. “We do not understand how the online allotment works, and many seniors have complained that they do not get the college even if their marks are more than the cut-offs. Then offline admissions is the only way out,“ said Parth Shah, who has appeared for his ICSE exams this year.

Meanwhile, from this year, colleges under the Bhiwandi Nizampur city and Vasai-Virar municipal corporations will not be part of the online admission process. Thus, 17,265 seats from 83 colleges in those regions will not be available for students in the online process.

“The demand for seats in colleges in this area was very poor, so we decided not to include them in the process.Whoever wants to apply at the college can do so directly,“ said Chavan.
