Now, IIM-A
offers exit scholarships to students
In a first, the Indian Institute of
Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will provide an exit scholarship to two fellows
who say no to job offers to set up their own start-ups. They will get a monthly
scholarship of Rs 30,000 for two years.
IIM-A
will also help students who opt for the social sector, civil services or pursue
doctoral research in India or abroad by paying 50% of their education loan
amount.
The
exit scholarships aim to provide a cushion of financial aid to students who
choose unconventional career paths and is part of the B-school's move to modify
scholarship criteria. The institute has also decided to increase family income
ceiling from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 15 lakh to avail of scholarship from the next
academic session.
Ashish
Nanda, director of IIM-A, said, “IIM-A feels a moral commitment to ensure that
all deserving candidates admitted to our PGP and PGPFABM programmes are able to
attend the programme, irrespective of their economic background. Towards this
objective, we are committed to offering deserving students the most generous
scholarship scheme among management schools in India.“ Professor Tathagata Bandyopadhyay,
chairman of admission committee at IIM-A, said a survey was conducted among
students before finalizing the new formula for scholarship.
