5 Simple hand exercises that help relieve joint pain @ Smartphone & Laptop can result in the early onset of arthritis

Spending hours on your smartphone and laptop can result in the early onset of arthritis, say experts

Thanks to the endless hours that we spend on our smartphones and laptops, not only are we putting pressure on our eyes but also on our fingers and wrists. Experts have noticed a steady rise in the cases of arthritis among youngsters in recent times. Arthritis means inflammation of the joints and can happen due to a number of causes. Here are simple exercises that could help to relieve pain...

1 FIST CLENCHING

Beginning with your fingers spread out, clench your hand into a fist. Keep your thumb on the outside of the fist and don’t squeeze too much. Slowly unclench your fist into its original position. Repeat this 10 times, and then swap hands.

2 KNUCKLE BENDING

Keeping your fingers straight, bend your knuckles as far as comfortable, apply a stretch and straighten your fingers fully.

3 THUMB BENDING

Using your left hand, hold the base of your right thumb. Without moving the base, bend the top half of the thumb, until you feel the stretch. Return the thumb tip to its original position, and repeat.

4 FINGER LIFTING

Rest the palm of your hand on a table, with all of your fingers spread apart. One by one, slowly lift each finger off the table. Hold the finger for a few seconds, before slowly lowering it.

5 MAKE AN ‘O’

Start by stretching your fingers. Then slowly curve all of your fingers inward until they touch and form an ‘O’. Hold this position, then straighten your fingers again. Repeat a few times on each hand.
