Educators to get tech help to clarify doubts

Technology as a teaching aid will no longer be the exclusive domain of international schools or tutoring centres. The state education department will soon roll out video tutorials and e-material to help teachers in state board schools to improve teaching standards in the state.

The state has launched http:www.videonirmiti.in, a website where teachers can upload suggestions on difficult topics.Based on teachers' suggestions, the state will post videos and other teaching aids on the website.

In a government resolution issued on June 24, principal secretary , school education department, Nand Kumar said, “Several programmes and initiatives have been implemented in the state to better the standards of education. In spite of these efforts, several surveys have revealed that the most important stakeholders, the students, are showing low learning levels. Hence it is clear that there are difficulties in learning and teaching.“

An online form is available for teachers, where they can share details about the specific problems they have while teaching various topics. The last date for filling up these forms will be July 5. “Once the teachers submit the various topics they have trouble with, we will, with assistance from expert teachers, make videos on how better to teach the subject. This will include various teaching tools that the teacher can use,“ said a teacher associated with the project. These videos will primarily help clear concepts in English, Mathematics and Science.

Teachers have welcomed the project. “Sometimes there are concepts which might be difficult to explain to the students. There are lakhs of teachers in the state and someone may have a better way of doing it. So it is necessary that there is a common pool of knowledge which will be available to all,“ said Uday Nare, teacher, Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri.
