When China launched
the Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS) or the Micius quantum-enabled
satellite into orbit on August 2016, there was more mystery than fanfare. For
China, that has been devoting significant attention and resources into its
space program, the first quantum-enabled satellite was just the beginning of a
more ambitious project. It was to create a hack-proof digital communication
network — called the quantum internet.
