Free & Open Source Software (FOSS) @ Research - Bibliometric / Scientometrics Analytical Tools : SciMAT & BIbexcel

Free & Open Source Software (FOSS) @ Research - Bibliometric / Scientometrics Analytical Tools : SciMAT & BIbexcel

The Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) model provides interesting tools and processes with which professional can create, exchange, share and exploit software and knowledge efficiently and effectively. FOSS can play an important role as a practical instrument for development as its free and open aspirations make it a natural component of development efforts in the context of the Professional Development Goals.

Research @ Professional

Research can be defined as a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict and control the observed phenomenon.

Research is not only limited to Doctorate Study, teaching faculty can use it to write the research article and students for their project report.

Bibliometric / Scientometrics Analytical Tools

Online web-based bibliographical databases, such as ISI Web of Science, Scopus, CiteSeer, Google Scholar or NLM’s MEDLINE are common sources of data for bibliometric research. Many of these databases have serious problems and usage limitations since they were mainly designed for information retrieval, rather than for bibliometric analysis. In order to overcome these limitations, one common solution consists of downloading data from online databases, cleaning it and storing it in customized ad hoc databases.

OSS for Biblio/Sciento Metrics @ Publish-or-Perish, SciMAT, Bibexcel, CiteSpace II, Science of Science (Sci2 ) Tool, HistCite, VOSViwer, UciNET;Pajek, NodeXL

For the said there is hands on SciMAT & Bibexcel

SciMAT  @ It is Java based application and compatible in LINUX, windows and other operating systems. It generates a knowledge base with key parameters like author, title, publishers, keywords, journal name and references etc. Knowledge base has sixteen entities like author, document, affiliation etc. It uses SQLite database to store the knowledge base.

Bibexcel @ It is a great tool for bibliometric and citation analysis. Developed by Olle Persson from Umea University, Sweden to assist a user in analyzing bibliographic data.

This is not well known Software. There are large number of people who are still not aware of it. There should be proper advertisement to make aware all those who are still not ware of its benefit
and advantages.

Those who are interested in doing the Research in a right way!!!! THEN PLS COME & JOIN US FOR THE SAID WORKSHOP
