Board invites entries for best lab contest
AURANGABAD: The Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) has invited entries from diploma institutes for the best laboratory award for 2017-18.

10 such awards are to be conferred by the MSBTE, which had instituted the awards since 2014-15 with an aim to promote laboratory development, among other objectives. Each award shall carry a cash prize of Rs50,000 and a certificate of appreciation. The prize money must be utilized by the winning institutes for further development of their laboratories, said an official release.

The interested institutes can send their entries for the award in an online manner by using the respective login credentials provided by the MSBTE. Any engineering polytechnic affiliated to the MSBTE or any autonomous polytechnic having equivalence from the education board can take part in the competition.

“For a laboratory to be eligible for the award, the department to which the laboratory belongs to, should have an ‘excellent’ remark, as per the final report of the second external academic monitoring. Consideration of the amount of space that can be utilized, the presence of all the different equipment, maintenance, proper record keeping, the availability of skilled human resource, housekeeping and aesthetics as well as the adoption of safety and energy conservation measures are some of the parameters for evaluation,” said MSBTE authorities.

The MSBTE has set a benchmark of 100 marks for the institutions to try and achieve and those securing a minimum of 70 marks are entitled to take part in the competition.

“The institutes that have a minimum score of 70% and above shall be eligible for the surprise physical visit to the concerned laboratory by an expert team appointed by the MSBTE to decide the winner of the competition,” said MSBTE authorities.

The last date for the sending of entries by interested institutes is January 31 and the list of winners will be declared in due course, added the authorities.
