to Scale Up Law Library to World-class Edu Facility
Greater Noida: Senior advocate and lawmaker Ram Jethmalani
inaugurated the Bennett University School of Law’s law library at its campus in
Greater Noida on Thursday.
Jethmalani praised the school’s infrastructure, saying that
students will benefit from the extensive facilities available here.
He drew from his experience as a lawyer during his address, going back to his
early student days.
“My father was against my getting into legal education and he put
me in a science college instead,” Jethmalani said in his Socratic Lecture at
the School of Law.
“But in the science college I couldn't do well because my mind
wasn’t there. Bombay university came up with a rule that an inter-science
college graduate could join the law college affiliated to the university. My
father accepted this defeat of his and wished me luck.”
Jethmalani said he later went on to teach law in Mumbai.
School of Law dean VC Vivekanandan said the library will be
developed into a world-class facility.
“The Bennett Law Library is a central space of legal education at
the School of Law, which will enable students to gain access to legal
information, research and advocacy,” he said.
“Our current library is well equipped with e-content, books,
journals and research reports. In the coming years, we envision this library to
turn out to be the best among the law schools.”
The second phase of the library will comprise reference and
journal sections that will be operational by 2020. Once completed, the law
library will occupy 20,000 sq ft of space.
The library also boasts of a legal language lab which is equipped
with audio-visual facilities. The School of Law is also in the process of
building an e-library where users can access databases outside the campus.
