Art of Listening @ The best way to learn about other people is to listen to what they say

Art of Listening @ The best way to learn about other people is to listen to what they say

American novelist Ernest Hemingway once said, “I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully.” Unfortunately, in today’s increasingly shrill and argumentative world listening seems to be a lost art.

Everyone wants to talk, but ironically, no one wants to listen and the result is that most of us have become poor listeners, thereby adversely affecting both our professional and personal life.

However, the art of listening can be cultivated over time leading to a positive outcome in all spheres of life. And for that, we must ensure that we concentrate on what is being said rather than thinking about how to counter the point being made from the other side.

It has been observed that one of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what others have to say. Moreover, listening with intent also builds bonds. Also, while listening, our intention should be to understand. We must not let our mind drift or wander. A disinterested expression not only kills a conversation but also harms relationships. So, next time when someone speaks, ensure that you are all ears.
