Univ may let teachers do e-assessment from home
The University
of Mumbai may soon allow teachers to assess answer sheets from the comfort of
their homes by using a secured login identity .While this is the eventual plan,
in the current year the university has decided to rope in colleges with more
than 50 computers in their laboratories to be used as nodal centres for the on-screen
assessment process.
Registrar of the university, M A Khan, said that
the university would like to ultimately move to a system where teachers can
access the answer sheets from their homes. “For such a move, we would require
an agency that would be capable of handling our requirement. Till then, we
would be making use of the computerized CAP (central assessment process)
centres at Kalina campus and the colleges which are well-equipped with computer
laboratories,“ said Khan.
In a meeting with principals on Monday , the
university discussed the implementation of on-screen assessment for the
semester-end exam commencing from March-end. Principals raised concerns over
availability of high-speed internet and scanning machines that would require
scanning of 32 pages. A few pointed to the need for a technical person at the
centres. The university said that a representative of the agency would be
available at each centre to help teachers. Several principals that TOI
contacted claimed they were not aware about the meeting.
Aprincipal said information about the meeting was
conveyed late on Saturday.
