2018 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools Ranking @ Library Science Climb in Rankings
The 2018 U.S. News & World Report
Best Graduate Schools rankings highlight a diverse array of UA graduate
programs.
The
University of Arizona saw a number of its graduate programs recognized for
their excellence in the 2018 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools
rankings, released Tuesday.
"The
UA is proud of the quality and reputation for excellence of its graduate
programs," said UA President Ann
Weaver Hart. "I recognize the intense competition among
graduate programs across the United States, and to have several of our
programs, across disciplines, recognized as among the best in the nation
affirms that we offer a world-class education and excellent preparation of the
next generation of academics, researchers, inventors and leaders."
Each
year, U.S. News ranks schools and programs in business, education, engineering,
law, nursing and medicine. The rankings in these six areas are based on expert
opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the
quality of a school's faculty, research and students.
Beyond
the six disciplines ranked annually, U.S. News also periodically ranks programs
in the sciences, social sciences, library sciences, humanities, health and many
other areas based solely on the ratings of academic experts.
The
UA Eller College of Management's rankings rose significantly. The management
information systems program went from No. 5 to No. 4, trailing only the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University and the
University of Texas.
Eller's
entrepreneurship program came in tied for No. 15 overall and No. 5 among public
universities. Its full-time MBA program cracked the top 50 this year, placing
49th overall — a jump of 11 places from last year's rankings — and 24th among
public universities, while the part-time MBA program tied for 46th. In another
top-50 appearance, the economics program tied with four other schools at No. 42
overall.
The
graduate program in library and information science in the School of
Information also jumped 11 places, tying at No. 22 in Library and Information
Studies. The ranking was the first update for this category since 2013.
The
sociology graduate program ranked No. 24. The College of Nursing's doctorate of
nursing practice ranked No. 26 and its master's program tied for No. 41. The
grad program in psychology tied for No. 45.
The
James E. Rogers College of Law ranked No. 48 on the Best Law Schools list,
while also ranking 27th in environmental law and 42nd among the nation's most
diverse law schools.
The
College of Engineering moved up one spot from last year, ranking at No. 54 on
the Best Engineering Schools list. The College of Education placed 57th among
Best Education Schools.
Graduate
programs in history (63) and English (77) also were ranked.
"I'm
pleased to see the recognition of the overall quality of our graduate programs
in a variety of fields of study," said Andrew Carnie, dean of the Graduate
College. "It speaks to the strength of our faculty and the effectiveness
of our cross-disciplinary approach."
A
number of other UA graduate programs appeared on the U.S. News list, but their
rankings were not subject to review in 2017.
