AICTE Guideline on Study Tours | 31 July 2015

Please find attached link for AICTE Guideline on Technical Institutions, Universities including  Deemed Universities imparting technical education coming under the purview of AICTE for the students participating in education tours, study tours, field visits, industrial visit, excursions or any other visit/tour dated 31 July 2015.

Important Features of Guidelines

·         The heads of engineering, management and other technical institutes in Maharashtra will have to ensure that adequate insurance cover, including accident and life cover, is provided to every student and faculty participating in educational and study tours, field visits, industrial visits, and excursions at the institution’s cost.
·         “The safety of students in and outside campuses of technical institutions is a matter of paramount importance. It should be the prime concern of educational administrators across the country to ensure that students are safeguarded against attacks, threats and accidents, both man-made and natural.
·         ln the event of non-compliance of the student safety guidelines, the Council can take appropriate action after ascertaining the facts. lt will be the responsibility of the institute head to provide all necessary help to students in case of emergency situations.
·         While the institute head will need to ensure and certify that the tour undertaken is required for the benefit of students or is related to the curriculum, he or she will also have to ensure that written permission of one of the parents or the local guardian is obtained for each student wanting to participate in such tours.
·         Students will also have to submit an undertaking stating that they would abide by the rules and guidelines throughout such tours.
·         A recognised medical practitioner will need to give a medical fitness certificate to every participating student.
·         According to the new guidelines, the accompanying faculty should be aware of the health condition of each student in order to decide whether a student should or should not be allowed to take part in a particular activity based on their health condition.
·         The faculty will also be made responsible for arranging medical assistance for any sick student.
·         A woman faculty member will have to accompany if there are girl students in such tours.
·         The institute head will also have to make sure that the list of the students participating in such tours must be countersigned by accompanying faculty with the undertaking that he or she would be liable for disciplinary action if it is found that the safety of the students was compromised during the tour.
·         “The head of the institution may arrange training programmes on leadership and basic life support and first aid for the faculty participating in such tours. A briefing session may also be organised before the tour to inform the students and the accompanying faculty about the details of the tour, rules and regulations to be followed during the tour.
·         An orientation in the areas of team-spirit, discipline, manners and behavior, geographical knowledge of the area tobe visited and safety measures to be followed may also be provided to the students and members of the faculty accompanying them,” the circular stipulates.
