Khadki Cantt to open library with 10,000 books for students
PUNE: Southern Army Commander Lt Gen D R Soni approved the Khadki Cantonment Board’s (KCB) library and reading room project for students in the cantonment and nearby localities recently.
Chief executive officer Amol Jagtap of KCB told TOI, “After the commander’s approval, we have floated a tender. The tender procedure will be completed by the end of June and it will be discussed at the board meeting, thereafter. We expect to commence the actual work in the month of July.”
The board members had passed the proposal at its board meeting a few months ago and consequently sent it to the army commander for a final approval.
Currently, there is no such facility available for the students in the cantonment. “A large number of poor students cannot focus on studies owing to inadequate space in their homes here. As a result, such a facility will resolve the issue permanently.”
The board’s plan is to set up the library close toNehru garden, which is located on the main road of Khadki Bazaar area. The facility will have over 10,000 books on various subjects, including reference books.
“Moreover, we will make available large number of e-books. The required internet, computer and other related facilities will be provided to the library members. This will be a game changer for the poor students,” Jagtap added.
The board has allocated Rs 61.48 lakh budgetary allocation for the project. “The library project was successfully completed in Deolali cantonment at Nashik a few years ago and it has received a good response from the people,” Jagtap said.
