Importance of Scientific Technical Terminology in Library & Information Science


Dear All

I am happy to share with all of you that I had opportunity to attend one of the exceptional workshops – “Importance of Scientific Technical Terminology in Library & Information Science”.

The workshop participation is purely on invitation basis only, am privilege that I got the opportunity to attend the same.

Near about more than 90 participants attended the same, they came from various corner of Maharashtra State (Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Nandurbar, Jalna, Aurangabad, Purna, Parbhani etc)

The said workshop is organized by Commission for Scientific & Technical Terminology - CSTT (M/o Human Resource Development – Department of Higher Education) in collaboration with J Watumull Sadhubella Girls College Ulhasnagar.

About the Commission for Scientific & Technical Terminology - CSTT

The Commission for Scientific & Technical Terminology (CSTT) was set up on December 21, 1960 by a resolution of Government of India under the proviso to Clause (4) of Article 344 of the Constitution with the objective to evolve and define scientific and technical terms in Hindi and all Indian languages; publish glossaries, definitional dictionaries, encyclopaedia.; to see that the evolved terms and their definitions reach the students, teachers, scholars, scientists, officers etc., to ensure proper usage/ necessary updating/ correction/ improvement on the work done (through workshops/ seminars/ orientation programmes) by obtaining useful feedback; to coordinate with all States to ensure uniformity of terminology in Hindi and other Indian languages.

About the Role of Association

Prof Subhash Athavale Sir & Dr. Vinay Patil Sir guided about the role of association and how it can help to individual in their LIS professional.  They had also requested to young professional to become member of BUCLA.

Outcome of the workshop

Many of us don’t know about the CSTT Commission, the workshop gave us the platform to know more about the CSTT Commission regarding their work profile and how they can help in our LIS field.
