Public Consultation on Draft National Policy on Software Products 2016

A Draft National Policy on Software Products-2016 has been formulated with an aim to stimulate the emerging software products ecosystem. It is expected that the future of software Industry will leverage the complementary strength of the digital products and services. To provide further stimulus, a Draft Policy on Software Products has been formulated.

It is requested that comments/views on the same may kindly be forwarded to Dr A. K. Garg, Director, MeitY (ajaik@meity.gov.in / Dr Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, Scientist-C, MeitY (sanjeevk.gupta@meity.gov.in) latest by December 9, 2016.

The government on Monday issued the draft of the country’s first-ever National Software Policy. A look at what it says:

The government aims to increase the share of Indian software products by tenfold globally to an estimated $148 bn

Aims to create 1 million jobs by 2017, and an additional 2.5 million by 2025

The policy will promote easy access to local domestic/international market for software products and create a conducive environment for the creation of 10,000 technology start-ups to develop competitive software products

It will create an enabling framework for inclusion of Indian software products in government procurement and promote their usage in sectors such as defence, atomic energy, space, railways, telecom, power and health care, among others

The government aims to leverage the Start-Up India initiative under the proposed policy
