Students who clear LLM in more than
one attempt will get a `class' on marksheets based on their scores, as per a
new resolution passed by the Mumbai University .
At
present, students who fail in any exam or are unable to take it for some reason
are given only pass class, despite scoring first class or distinction marks.
The rule was passed in the academic and management councils meetings recently .
It
was also decided that LLM students will be allowed to re-appear for their exam
for `class' improvement. It will mean a student scoring 58% can re-appear for
the exam to get above 60%. Ashok Yende, officiating chairman, board of studies
for law, said, “Despite a score of 60% or 75% and above in their second
attempts, these students were given a pass class. Due to this, they were not
entitled to apply for their PhD or MPhil. The new resolution will pave way for
such LLM students.“
However,
these students will not be entitled for any ranks or merit positions. To
distinguish them from regular students, it has been decided that an asterisk
mark (*) or a hashtag (#) will be mentioned against their class. The board has
decided that students who clear their LLM in more than one attempt will get a
single marksheet, unlike the case now, wherein different marksheets are given
for multiple attempts. Since practical training is essential for BBA LLB
course, it has been resolved that practical training paper be added to each of
the semesters II, IV, VI, VIII and X.The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa
will be offering short-term courses and training programmes in the University
National Law School. It has resolved to start a PG diploma in judicial
services.
