City book delivery service aims to encourage reading

City book delivery service aims to encourage reading

Husband and wife team up to bring to readers a selection of books across genres

At a time when readership in the city is rapidly changing, with changing reading patterns, dwindling libraries and bookstores, a book pick-up and delivery service recently launched by Trilogy in Lower Parel provides readerswith the opportunity to encourage their reading habits.

The bookstore, founded in 2014 by co-founders, husband and wife Meethil Momaya and Ahalya Naidu, and also has an attached library collection, launched the book delivery service in December. It has been picking up over January and February. The bookstore-cum-library houses a carefully curated selection of books across genres like children’s writing, travel, history, world fiction literatures, science and photography, presenting a rare opportunity for readers in the city to find an interesting collection of books.

The library membership comes at various prices, from 75 per month, and membership can vary between individual — where readers can borrow one book at a time for a month, exchanging it for another book if they finish before this period — couple, and family membership, wherein eight books can be borrowed at a time. Membership can be tried for a 14-day period and then taken in instalments of one month to annual. The service offers same-day delivery of chosen library books at a small price.

Mr. Momaya and Ms. Naidu formerly worked in wildlife photography and manuscript editing, respectively, and are voracious readers. Their interest led them to study at the National Book Trust in New Delhi in 2011, where they learnt about publishing. “The need for creating a space with books drew us toward library consultancy, where we curated libraries for corporates and other clients, and eventually to set up our own bookstore.” They also take the time to engage with customers, and learn about their reading interests to make recommendations. If readers are shy to approach, they can also use as a guide the post-its pasted on to shelves and collections in the bookstore, giving readers opinions and feedback on the experience of reading books.
