How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Content Management

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Content Management

Published on 7 Jun 2016

My presentation from the Council of University of Wisconsin Libraries (CUWL) Annual Conference on June 7, 2016. Discusses the use of a web management system in an academic library and related standardization issues in our state-wide library consortium.

Abstract:

In the summer of 2014, the UWM Libraries website was converted from a static HTML environment to a Content Management System (CMS), WordPress. This involved a major design overhaul and substantial weeding. The project was a learning process for everyone involved, including our hosting provider. We now enjoy several benefits to having software and policies in place which support our distributed editing system. This session will provide an overview of the technical logistics and development philosophy involved with our migration and an irreverent discussion of the larger "herding cats" type of issues and impediments that library web managers face today.
