CITY'S FIRST CONSERVATION CENTRE AT XAVIER'S HERAS INSTITUTE

The Heras Institute of Indian History and Culture, at St Xavier's College inaugurated its new `Conservation Centre' on Friday. The centre was inaugurated by Neil MacGregor, director, British Museum, and an eminent historian. This centre was funded by the Sir Dorabji Tata trust and is the first conservation centre launched in an educational institute in the city.

It is an inter-disciplinary conservation centre and is open to all the sciences and arts departments of the college. The centre will provide coaching on conservation of materials like stone, paper, rare books, wood, coins, metal and scientific studies related to them and other technologies. It will also develop and implement strategies for remedial and preventive conservation of the various collections at St Xavier's College and The Heras Institute.
