Taking cue from popular international chat
apps Snapchat, home-grown messaging platform Hike on Thursday rolled out new
features such as stories, camera and live filters. With the launch of its new
feature stories, the messaging app has discontinued its old feature timeline,
which earlier also allowed users to post images.
While stories enables users to post
photographs on their respective page, the new in-built camera in the app, lets
an user to click photos inside Hike. The live filters further lets an user
alter photos using options like black and white sunglasses to a turban,
moustache, etc. Hike currently has12 such live filters. A user who posts a
story can see how many people and who viewed it on the app.
“There are about four-five new social looks
which are currently available. And with India being three-four years behind in
technology, some features will enter the market late. For example, Facebook
introduced timeline in 2004, which was later adopted in India,” said Kavin
Bharti Mittal, founder and CEO, Hike Messenger.
However, unlike Snapchat which has a 24 hours
self destruct time line, that is after 24 hours the photo disappears, on Hike,
photographs disappear after 48 hours. Mittal added that the time has been
increased on the app as people in India continue to face data related issues.
However, the new features at present is
available to only 20% users of Hike, as the internet firm says that by November
20, it will complete 100% roll out.
