Move for research tie-up with global institutions
IIT-NIT alumni networks to facilitate
collaborations with foreign entities
Chennai, October 12:
The Union
HRD Ministry is tapping the alumni networks of IITs and NITs to enable
collaboration between leading technological institutions and their counterparts
globally for cutting-edge research.
The Ministry
has chosen IIT Alumni Centre, Chennai, to drive an all-India initiative called
Touchstone, which will act as a catalyst to link Centrally-funded technological
universities and global institutions.

Touchstone
will be a service offered to Indian academia by alumni fraternity and play the
role of ‘connector and catalyst’ facilitating cross-border research alliances,
said S Gopal, president, IITAC, at the launch.
Lakshmi
Narayanan, vice-chairman, Cognizant Technology Solutions, and part of
Touchstone Advisor Board, said the Centre would provide sufficient funds,
running into hundreds of crores, to Touchstone.

all-India initiative was launched in Chennai because IITAC took the initiative,
he told newspersons on the sidelines of the launch.
