Mumbai
: In a
bid to inculcate the habit of cleanliness amongst children, the state
government has planned to start ‘Hand Wash Centres’ in all the schools across
Maharashtra. The project will be part of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, which
is run by the Central government.
Under
the project, either teachers or health experts will be entrusted with the responsibility
of teaching students the correct technique of washing hands. The government had
initiated a pilot project in a school in Jalana district earlier and had
concluded that the students who wash their hands properly fall ill less often,
and hence it decided to implement the project across the state.
To
execute the project, the Central government has allocated Rs 5 lakh for every
district.
In
the first phase of the project, 500 schools have been selected, and each school
will be given Rs 15,000 to set up a hand wash facility.
Also,
education officials have said that headmasters of the schools that implement
the project at the earliest will be awarded.
