Education minister Vinod
Tawde has said that the new Maharashtra Universities Act will be enacted in the
coming Monsoon Session and hence the term of elected officials to various
university bodies will get an extension of around a year. Mr Tawde has also
said that the one-day survey conducted last week to identify out-of-school
children is an ongoing activity and will be repeated to ensure that no child in
the age group of 6-14 years as per the RTE Act remains out of school in the
state.
While speaking on the topic
of the survey, Mr Tawde admitted that there had been various allegations
regarding discrepancies in the methodology of the survey conducted by the
various government department officials involved in the same. He assured that
despite the discrepancies the education ministry was intent on implementing the
RTE Act in its entirety and hence would continue having such surveys in the
months to come.
“The survey was conducted
efficiently by the education department officials and they will continue doing
so. Those regions where our officials were not able to reach will be visited in
the next survey and we are sure that the number of out-of-school children being
enrolled in a school will increase,” said Mr Tawde.
He further added that the
children identified in the survey would be given Aadhar cards and the schools
wherein they have been enrolled will be responsible for making further
arrangements for them if the family of the student plans to migrate elsewhere.
Speaking about the
enactment of the new Maharashtra Universities Act, Mr Tawde said that in light
of the new act being brought in force, senate elections and elections to
various authoritative bodies of universities would have to be postponed by a
year, thus giving an extension of a year to all members. He said that the
elections would be held as per the new Act.
