IIT-NIT alumni networks to facilitate collaborations with foreign entities

Chennai, October 12:

The Union HRD Ministry is tapping the alumni networks of IITs and NITs to enable collaboration between leading technological institutions and their counterparts globally for cutting-edge research.
The Ministry has chosen IIT Alumni Centre, Chennai, to drive an all-India initiative called Touchstone, which will act as a catalyst to link Centrally-funded technological universities and global institutions.

Connector and catalyst

Touchstone will be a service offered to Indian academia by alumni fraternity and play the role of ‘connector and catalyst’ facilitating cross-border research alliances, said S Gopal, president, IITAC, at the launch.

Lakshmi Narayanan, vice-chairman, Cognizant Technology Solutions, and part of Touchstone Advisor Board, said the Centre would provide sufficient funds, running into hundreds of crores, to Touchstone.

IITAC initiative

This all-India initiative was launched in Chennai because IITAC took the initiative, he told newspersons on the sidelines of the launch.
