All schools to be connected with Internet, Wi-Fi @ 'Progressive Educational Maharashtra'

The ‘Diksha’ platform offers teachers, students and parents engaging learning material relevant to the prescribed school curriculum

In view of the rapid mushrooming of Internet for various jobs in school such as digital classroom, rationalisation of classes, all schools in Maharashtra will be connected with Internet and Wi-Fi, Education Minister Vinod Tawde said.

While inaugurating 'Maharashtra In Service Teachers Resource App, Mitra 2.0' started by education department on 'Diksha' app, National Teachers Platform for India’, Tawde said that as part of 'Progressive Educational Maharashtra', all the schools will be connected with Internet and WiFi. He said that with digitalisation, the schools are required to handle more and more work digitally and as such the Internet is the need of the hour.

The 'Diksha' platform offers teachers, students and parents engaging learning material relevant to the prescribed school curriculum. Teachers have access to aids like lesson plans, worksheets and activities to create enjoyable classroom experiences. Students understand concepts, revise lessons and do practical exercises. Parents can follow class room activities and clear doubts outside school hours.

In absence of aid from the government, educational institutes are required to bear various expenses and with the internet being used widely, they have to incur additional expenditure. The schools require the internet for the jobs such as compilation of data related to students, clicking and sending selfies for the work related to outside students (Shalabahya Vidyarthi), e- learning, upgradation of different websites etc.

Besides the information related to competitive examination, different scholarships is invited and collected online. Besides, every teacher is being given training about using android phone. In view of this the Internet is essential.

'Shikshak Bharati', a teachers’ organisation has urged the state government to extend the facility of Internet to all the schools in Maharashtra. Commenting on the announcement by Tawde, 'Shikshak Bharati' working president Subhash More said that the idea is good, but its proper implementation is required. No Internet should remain unconnected due to defective telephone lines, the lines disconnected due to unpaid telephone bills etc.
