Maharashtra education panel to monitor utilisation of funds
The state’s education department will appoint a panel to evaluate if funds allocated for education are being spent efficiently in the programmes and schemes started for the sector.According to a government resolution (GR) issued on Monday, a seven-member panel will draft a minimum of three performance indicators to evaluate the ‘efficiency of expenditure’.
The panel will be headed by the department’s principal secretary and the head of revenue department. Representatives of education institutions will be members of the panel.
One of its prime responsibilities will be to appoint third-party auditors to examine the expenses and suggest changes in the implementation of the programmes.
“Its job will be to ascertain whether there is optimum utilisation of funds allocated by the department and that the schemes are achieving the desired outcome,” read the GR.
Recently, the government started Pragat Shaikshanik Maharashtra and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan to improve the standard of primary and secondary education.
Adding that the panel will monitor the implementation of all the programmes of the department, the GR states that it can even suggest changes to improve their result. The panel will also choose 10 officers on the basis of their performance for effective implementation of the schemes.
