Soon, site to address special kids' woes
The state education department plans
to setting up a website to invite suggestions and resolve grievances related to
inclusion of children with special needs in schools across Maharashtra.
School
education minister Vinod Tawde made the announcement at a workshop for
educators and principals of city schools, said an official. “An education
department official will reply and address the complaints received through the
portal within a week.
The
minister also said that the schools will set up an adult writers’ bureau so
that students can avail services of genuine people,” said psychiatrist Dr
Harish Shetty, who was present at the workshop.
Recently,
the state has introduced an updated list of exam provisions, which can be
availed by children with special needs in accordance with their requirements.
“The state has assured us that the government resolution is only a beginning
and additions will be made as and when required. This could be done through the
dedicated website,“ said Sonali Saini, chairperson, Sol's ARC, a learning
centre for special children and a member of the committee that drafted the
provisions. The government resolution extends the provisions to school exams
starting from Std I. Principals have welcomed the government's decision. “Such
decisions are the need of the hour. Maharashtra must take the lead. However, it
is very important that the GR is implemented properly and there is enough
awareness,“ said Father Francis Swamy, joint secretary of the Archdiocesan
Board of Education.
