Schools asked to conduct First online aptitude tests in February
State board to survey computer facilities in schools
MUMBAI: Schools have been asked to conduct aptitude tests for Secondary School Certificate exam (SSC) students in February.
From this week, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) will survey school computers to check if they are fit for conducting the tests online, along with training sessions for school principals and information technology (IT) teachers.
The tests-aimed to gauge the skills and interests of Class 10 students-will be mandatory for students appearing for the SSC exams this year.
Since the tests will be conducted in the schools itself, schools will have to take up the responsibility. For this, the board will survey the computer facilities in the schools from December 9 to 23, announced the board on Thursday.
“In the survey, we will register the school computers for the test, check the network and software available so that students will not face any problems in giving the test,” said DG Jagtap, divisional chairperson of the board.
Jagtap added that students will not be required to prepare for the tests. “The tests will only attempt to gauge the interests and aptitude of the students, they only have to answer a yes, no or don’t know, there is no preparation needed,” said Jagtap.
However, schools said that conducting the tests a month prior to board exams will interfere with their and students’ preparations. “Students are busy with last minute revision and practical exams in February, it is unfair to disturb them,” said Uday Nare, a senior teacher, Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri. “Even schools are busy conducting internal exams at that time.”
