Now, Kendriya Vidyalaya schools to teach Mandarin, French, Spanish

Until now the students had only German as an option, but now they can choose between, German, French, Mandarin and Spanish, as additional foreign language in our schools.

KV OFFICIAL

Students at Kendriya Vidyalaya schools will have an option to learn Mandarin, French or Spanish as additional foreign language other than German from next academic session.

The decision was taken at the meeting of governing board meeting of KV last month, sources said.

“Until now the students had only German as an option, but now they can choose between, German, French, Mandarin and Spanish, as additional foreign language in our schools,” a KV official said.

These additional languages were chosen as, he said, on the basis of their popularity world over.

In order to be introduced as an additional foreign language in a class, at least 15 students in that class will have to be willing to learn the language.

Earlier Ger man was replaced as the third language with Sanskrit in 2014 as it violated the three language formula according to which a student has to study any modern Indian language along with English and Hindi.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya had signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) which made German a ‘third language’ as a subject in schools.

This was done without taking the human resource development ministry on board so the ministry directed the KVs to not renew the memorandum of understanding.
