Dr. Rajendra Kumbhar Sir,
in his session said that reading
enriches our life and gives better insight into understanding human nature. It not only improves our vocabulary
and grammar but it also helps
us in reading humans, nation
and the society as well. It prepares us to go for higher goals and shows us how to accomplish those
goals.
He said reading is a perfect knowledge tonic
and every LIS professional must
have her/his dose of this
tonic as it will sharpen their minds, encourage them to write themselves, give better ideas of
entrepreneurship, and will help them in performing
better in LIS carrer.
Sir emphasizes on due to Digital Disruption, reading material
is easily available and at a cheap cost.
LIS professional role has been changed from Preservation officer to
Reader Developer.
Sir had mentioned about different methods to promote
reading for example:
Marketing of Reading
According to Sir, librarian should encourage reader, personally
call them and teach them how to read, what to read and when to read.

Reading across the curriculum, also called content literacy
or active reading, is defined as "the ability to use reading and writing
for the acquisition of new content in a given discipline.

Reading
Pleasure reading can be defined as reading that is freely
chosen or that readers freely and enthusiastically continue after it is
assigned.
Reading
– Eyes & Brain Function
Sir had mentioned reading had its own impact on Eyes and
Brain how they are noting down the knowledge and gaining he knowledge.
The exact difference in Eyes and Brain are noticing and
notice of the reading.
Sir had listed down some of the reason why user or students
are not reading they are
What should they read?
Due to Reading Literacy
Librarian are experts of Reading Materials so they should
take the lead and guide them for reading.
Reader
Advice Service
Sir had asked Librarian to become expert in recommending
the reading and this can be only by reading by themselves, sir had suggested
read at least two or three books in their domain so they can consult by the
reader for Reader Advice Service.
Competition for Librarian
Sir had informed that there is huge competition from the
outsider for LIS community such as Amazon, EBSCO, Novelist, Good Reads etc.
Western
Countries
They are appointing one librarian for one student, even
they are promoting Librarian with their photograph and designation.
Reading Materials at user ease
We should provide reading materials to the user according to
their need and convenient time. So, they
can read according to their interest and convenient time
Sir had an practical example to conclude that we should be
provide service like a “Tiffin
Dabbawala”.
Librarian
should be talkable and market the reading material and library services to its
users.
LIS
professional should work as a Doctor or Lawyer how they are advising their
patient and client just like we should inform our user regarding Reading Advice
Service.
