Topic 1 | Social Media
& Other Applications for Modern Libraries
In
the first session, we had an interactive discussion on how social media &
other innovative applications creating an impact on Modern Libraries. In
today’s era of competition, LIS professionals should equip with more innovative
skills.
We
discussed various SM tools which can be used by LIS professional to promote
their Library services. Not only SM tools there are handy tools which are
available from MS office which can be for improving the library services
The
other applications which we covered for the session are Google tools, how we
can use Google tools in our day to day activities of the Library.
Topic 2 | Trends in Open Source Software
Information Technology (IT) impacted
in every domain of knowledge; Libraries is one of the most impacted areas due
to IT. Now a day’s it is understandable that a graduation degree is not only
enough for getting a job. In today’s environment, you should have some
additional skills in your kitty bank, and then only you will be sustained in
this competition.
Open Source movement within two
centuries it reaches where it makes OS application accessible to each one. No
doubt, in the early days of the introduction of OS, there is a lot of
concentration on OS versus proprietary. But due to commercial support for OS
ensure that citizen can use the OS application without much hesitation.
We discussed Open Access (OA), Open
Educational Resources (OER’s), and Open Source Software (OSS). We had a
detailed discussion on OSS applications in the Library domain for Library
Automation & Institutional Repository.
