4 Chennai librarians awarded for their great service
CHENNAI: Four city librarians were
awarded for great service, as part of the 125th birth anniversary function of
SR Ranganathan, who is also known as 'Father of Library Science in India', on
Wednesday. Organised by MOP
Vaishnav College for Women in collaboration with the Tamilnadu Library
Association, the event was addressed by K Malaiswamy former home secretary and
state election commissioner, who urged the students to cultivate the reading
habit and focus on prioritising and time management, ahead of their exams.
Lalitha Balakrishnan, principal, MOP Vaishnav College for Women, said, "It's upsetting to see that the reading habit is diminishing among students, which we want them to develop and expand. When I was in school, my librarian would ask me to read one page of the Britannica Encyclopedia every day. It was quite useful. However much you read from a Kindle or collect information from Google, the touch and feel of the book is important. We also have outside library visits organised for the students."
G
Krishnamoorthy, library director, Anna University, received the award for the
best university librarian; K Rajkumar, librarian at Dr Ambedkar Government Arts
College, received the award for the best college librarian; C Haripriya,
librarian at MOP Vaishnav College for Women was awarded the best women's college
librarian and S Elango, librarian, LLA Branch Library, Thiruvanmiyur, was
awarded the best LLA public librarian.
