Autonomous colleges want
single-window system
Autonomous colleges want to offer PhD and MPhil
programmes on their campuses on the basis of entrance tests held by
universities. Heads of autonomous colleges met governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari
and told him that there were matters that needed to be implemented to bring
about excellence at their colleges. They also want to start new programmes
enlisted by the University Grants Commission, without university permission.
There are 84 autonomous colleges in the state, with 30 affiliated to University
of Mumbai.
There has to be a single-window
system at every university or autonomous institute, they said. They also
demanded a one-time uniform affiliation fee and want to be freed from the 25%
share of college exam fees. “Autonomous colleges should not pay 25% exam fee
share to the university, except convocation fees, as all exams are conducted in
autonomous colleges itself,” said a letter to the governor. The governor
assured the principals that he would look into all the issues.
