So far, teachers were guaranteed a higher pay
scale promotion on completion of 12 and 24 years of service. Now, they will
have to meet an additional criterion related to quality of education imparted.
Primary (Classes I to V) and upper primary
teachers (VI to VIII) will be eligible for higher pay scales on completion of
12 and 24 years only if their school has an A grade in the National Standards
and Evaluation (Shala Siddhi) Programme.
The grade depends on several parameters like
infrastructure, student performance and academic quality.
For secondary school teachers (IX and X), the
success rate of students they grade will have to be above 80%. Eligible
teachers will be provided in-service training by the Maharashtra State Council
of Educational Research and Training.
