Reverse Mentoring: How Millennials in the Workplace Are Turning Peer Mentoring on Its Head
As
the name implies, reverse mentoring flip-flops the typical mentoring relationship:
Rather than an experienced employee taking an inexperienced colleague under his
or her wing, the inexperienced employee acts as the mentor who provides
insights into emerging technology and trends or, simply, a younger perspective, both
of which may be valuable to the company.
Example : Leaders at the company are also informally reverse mentored,
which helps millennials share their perspectives and allows leaders to
appreciate their thinking. Recently, one employee at Tesco taught an executive
member how to manage social media, while he picked up project management,
leadership and public speaking skills.
